Mommy and Baby Elephant

Some friends adopted a baby girl earlier this year and I wanted to make something for her other than a baby blanket.

I had my heart set on making her a little elephant, and when I toured her nursery and saw her baby quilt had little elephants, I knew that an elephant would be perfect!

I found a pattern online and finished it pretty quickly, so I made a bigger mommy elephant to go with her!  I absolutely fell in love with the yarn I used for the baby elephant. I believe it was Red Heart Moon and Stars.

They turned out okay. It was the first time I ever used a pattern to make anything, so I was pretty proud of myself for figuring it out. I would definitely change the pattern a little, though, and I did attempt to with the bigger elephant, but had a few issues trying to figure out how to make the trunk hang down rather than point out. I also need to work on my needlework! I had a lot of problems making the eyes.

Introduction + Ponyo = Love

I started crocheting when I was 20. I wanted to make my boyfriend (now husband) a scarf for Christmas. My mom taught me some basic stitches and I went to town. I made tons of scarves after that, and I eventually made a baby blanket for a friend last year.

Last Halloween (2010), we decided that we wanted our 2-year-old to be Sosuke from the movie Ponyo. The problem was, we couldn't find a little Ponyo for him to have in his little green pail. I looked into making one and decided that my best option was to crochet Ponyo on my own. I looked up a tutorial on youtube on how to make a simple ball and I went from there.

The result:

Pretty good for my very first Amigurumi!

I took a crocheting hiatus as I grew baby #2, but picked it right back up as soon as he came. I've been in love ever since.

I've decided to document my yarn adventures here as I make everything from dragons to household cleaning items! Who knew a skein of yarn would be so handy?
