I found the pattern online a long time ago and decided to make one for Aaron for Christmas! It was kind of a tedious pattern (I really did not enjoy making the legs), but it was worth it! I think it is the cutest thing I've made so far. Its a lot bigger than anything I've made before, too. It stands at 1' high and 1' across!
The pattern recommended using a size G hook, but I used a size E hook instead. I can't imagine how big this thing would be if I had used the size G!
I used red heart super savers coffee and aspen grove yarns.
Things I Didn't Like:
I would make the body a little wider. It seems like the head is bigger than the body.
I would also try something different for the mane.
The buttons on the legs were a pain to sew on, and it took me and my mom to do it. However, they are SO worth it, because the legs can move on their own!
I opted to omit the button covers, because the buttons matched the horse so nicely and there is NO way those things are coming off with the way you sew them on.
Things I Did Like:
I love the nostrils. They give it a lot of personality. I also love how big it is and how kid friendly it is.
The end product is absolutely adorable. It makes the quirks of the pattern totally worth it.
I am definitely going to make this pattern again. I'm planning on making a cute unicorn for one of the hubby's cousin's little girls, or for my bff's daughter. I'm also thinking about adjusting the pattern to make a few reindeer for next Christmas.
I may also have plans to make a dragon pattern based loosely off of this pattern...I think it would be amazing.
I would recommend this pattern to anyone who knows how to crochet. It is definitely one of my very favorites!
